Paint yourself into the scenery

Pick a color from your surroundings and paint it onto your blob. Copy a patch of grass, a cobbled path or even a painting. The closer you match, the harder you are to spot.

Hold still as a guard walks past. It might come close enough to step right over you. Just try not to panic.

How it plays

A little paint goes a long way

See a disguise work, a trail give you away, and a few ways to outwit your friends.

A blob painted like a Starry Night floor canvas is invisible on it, then slides onto bare marble and becomes an obvious piece of stolen Van Gogh.

A new floor needs a new disguise

A coat that matches a painting stands out on bare marble. Repaint when you move somewhere new, or risk being the most obvious thing in the room.

Wet paint leaves a trail

Your paint rubs off on the ground while it's wet. Wait for it to dry before moving, or leave a trail straight to your hiding spot.

An island full of paintings

Arrive by boat and explore the island. Step through paintings into other places, from gardens to a grand old house. Earn stars to open gates, and look for hidden paths along the way.

Try to stay dry

Wade through a creek or paddle at the beach, but remember that water washes off your paint. Venture too deep and the undertow will push you back to shore.

A multiplayer match seen from the seeker's side of it. Two hiders work in the open, one spraying a patch of paint cover onto the paving; the other breaks out of that cover to lob a rock, and the bare, gun-carrying seeker is stunned where it stands.

Bring friends. Hide from them.

Play online with friends in Hide and Seek, where one of you hunts while the others hide. In Infection, everyone caught joins the hunt. Try Head to Head for a team contest, or Heist to sneak painted crates past the other players.

Hide and Seek, Infection and Heist also let your team restore a painting together. Find the scene it shows, collect its colors with your eyedropper, and use them to put the painting right.

Or be the furniture.

Paint yourself as a crate, barrel or suit of armor and hide among the furniture. Just try not to move when the hunter looks your way. Play Hide and Seek (Prop Hunt) or Infection (Prop Hunt).

  • Explore after dark. Find your way by lamplight and glowing mushrooms.
  • Watch the weather. Dodge sprinklers, avoid searchlights and find shelter from the rain.
  • Make a little mess. Throw a rock, lob a paint bomb or spray a hiding spot with your hose.
  • Thirty-two levels. Discover new paintings, search for secrets, smuggle a crate past the guards and earn stars to open more of the island.
  • Build & share. Create maps with the level editor and tile studio, then share them on Steam Workshop.
  • Play your way. Use keyboard and mouse or a controller, with remappable controls. Warning shapes help you read alerts, and an optional tone helps you match colors.
  • A dark gallery at night: a hand with a paintbrush works across the blob, which is half painted to match the Starry Night canvas it stands on.
  • A carnival dance floor at night: a searchlight beam has caught the blob, and the game marks it as spotted.
  • A goods yard at night in heavy rain, where a Tracker hound closes in on the blob beside a signal post.
  • The in-game level editor: a guard patrol being drawn across a volcanic level, with the prop palette open.
